BEMIDJI -- The Beltrami County Board on Tuesday voted to complete the first phase of the roughly $5 million renovation of the county jail -- leaving subsequent phases in doubt. Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said the additional requirements on the project being stacked on from the Minnesota Department of Corrections made parts of the other phases unfeasible to the county. WALKER -- A Bemidji man accused of attempted murder for his involvement in the August stabbing and kidnapping of a man in Cass Lake was convicted of felony assault and robbery in Cass County Court Monday. Travis Paquette, 19, was sentenced to 8 years in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for first-degree assault and 18 months in prison for simple robbery. BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man facing a felony criminal vehicular operation charge after flipping a car carrying passengers in October pleaded not guilty in Beltrami County District Court. David LaDuke, 20, was arrested Oct. 17 after Beltrami County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call of three men and a car flipped on its roof in Gull Lake in Hagali Township.
