  • Democrat wins western Wisconsin senate seat, flipping traditionally conservative district

    Jan 18, 2018

MADISON, Wis. — A Democrat has been elected to represent a traditionally conservative Wisconsin Senate district where voters overwhelmingly supported President Donald Trump in 2016, in an upset that Democrats suggest could lead to more Republican losses in the state. Patty Schachtner’s victory late Tuesday in the 10th Senate District — which includes Hudson and River Falls — could be a sign of hope for Democrats, who have been pushed to the brink of irrelevancy after seven years of Republican control of both legislative houses and the governo...

  • Vikings: Predict this quarterback matchup? We can barely explain it.

    Jan 18, 2018

The last Rams team to play in St. Louis had a Super Bowl quarterback on the roster and, in fact, he started 11 games. Or five games. It depends on whether the Vikings or Eagles win Sunday’s NFC Championship Game in Philadelphia. Before they moved back to Los Angeles prior to the 2016 season, the St. Louis Rams’ finished 7-9 and fourth in the NFC West with Nick Foles and Case Keenum taking turns as their top quarterback. A series of fortunate and, for some, unfortunate events brings them together for a 5:40 p.m. kickoff Sunday at Lincoln Fin...

  • Minnesota GOP leader seeks a cut of big donations

    Jan 18, 2018

The new chairwoman of Minnesota’s Republican Party is seeking a 10 percent commission from large donations to the party, according to a memo obtained by the Associated Press. Campaign finance experts said they’ve never heard of such an arrangement. And it risks upsetting major GOP donors and activists by diverting critical resources from a party that has struggled with debt for much of the last decade — even as it prepares for two U.S. Senate elections, a wide-open race for governor and four or more competitive congressional elections. https...
